I’ve been wanting to do Mya’s birthday pictures for a while now but it has been raining nonstop! Today it finally quit. It was warmer and Mya was in a great mood! So today was the day. I’ve been wanting to do something with her outside in nature. She loves to be in the woods, looking for worms, insects, cool rocks. While we were waiting for it to get darker, she was in the creek, covered in mud, searching for snails. I wasn’t paying attention because I was getting everything set up and when I turned around and saw her walking in the water in her shoes with mud all over her white dress, I just had to laugh. That’s so her! She’s such a cool kid! Her 7th birthday is coming up so I’ll be posting some more but I wanted to share my favorite photo from tonight. This pose was all her. She said, “I have an idea.” And then she went and stood like this. Too cute! I love this girl!

This evening I met up with a family that I hadn’t seen since the fall. Things were not working in our favor but they were so easy. It started raining shortly after the session started and then it started raining a little harder. We were outside and there was really not anywhere to take pictures that was covered so we found a big tree and kind of hung out there for most of the session. Whew! Thank goodness for awesome people! These two are about to have birthdays! It was so much fun hanging out with them. Brother reminded me so much of River! I haven’t done many family sessions lately and it was so nice to hang out with some big kids again! Thank you guys for being so easy-going, even in the midst of rain, gnats and some potty accidents. hehe It was so awesome to see you all again! Here are just a couple that I have edited. More to come later but for now I’ve got eyes that are crossing! Good night! zzzz…..
Could she possibly get any cuter?! Look at her little crossed feet! Oh my!
Sweet Piper/Asheville Child Photographer
My sweet little Piper is turning 2 at the end of the month. I can hardly believe it. She still seems like a baby to me. I have to keep reminding myself that she’s a toddler. She reminds me herself every now and then when she gets frustrated and pitches a little fit. Her fits are pretty funny. I can’t help but laugh when she does it because inside, I know how sweet she really is. She is the most affectionate, loving, happy child I’ve ever known. I still don’t know what I did to deserve her!
Tiny Dancer
Mya decided that she wanted to do ballet back in the fall. I thought for sure, she would give it a try and be ready to quit after a month. She’s never been a girly girl. She’s not the most graceful girl. And she’d rather be spending her time outside exploring in the dirt and woods. I was pleasantly surprised that she actually liked ballet and has stuck with it up until now. Now her recital will be coming up and I am so proud of her! She looks like she is having so much fun in class and she really gives it everything she’s got. I took ballet one year as a child and dance classes in college. I always dreamed of being a dancer, but our family couldn’t ever really afford dance classes. I always hoped I would have a daughter that would want to take dance classes. Mya has already said that she wants to do soccer in the fall, but I’m so glad that she gave it a really good shot! I put makeup on her today since they were doing pictures at the dance studio. I did her hair and after her makeup, told her to go look in the mirror. I wished so much that I had had my camera then because the smile on her face was like nothing I have ever seen in her. She just kept staring at herself and came back and told me she couldn’t believe how beautiful she looked. She looked so grown up! Did I cry watching her have her pictures taken at the studio? Me?! Noooo……okay, maybe a little. hehe Will I make it through the recital without making a fool out of myself? Probably not! I love this girl!
4 Years Old!/Asheville Child Photographer
I can’t believe I’m typing this. River is turning 4! In some ways I’m having a hard time with him growing up so quickly, but in other ways, it’s kind of nice. He had a VERY long case of the terrible two’s. lol He’s finally out of that phase, thank God. So now we can have our sweet little boy back. And he really is so sweet. Sometimes I just can’t even believe how lucky we are to have such a kind, caring, amazing little boy. I would be okay with time slowing down now because before we know it, he’s going to be off to kindergarten and that I can’t handle. That will not be a happy day for me. My husband has already said that I’m not allowed to take him on the first day. hehe When my kids have birthdays, I can’t help but think back to the day they were born. I’ll never forget the absolute joy that I felt the minute they put River on my chest. It was like nothing I had ever experienced. He has been a huge light in our lives ever since. I would do anything to go back and relive that early morning, okay maybe not the pain of it because good golly he was a big baby. lol But that moment when I first met him was a memory that will stay with me forever. I was so sleep deprived by the time he finally made it into the world but I felt like I was on cloud nine for a few days. He made me so very happy! Okay, I have to stop typing all of this or I’m going to be wanting another baby. So happy, happy day to my beautiful little Pisces!
Getting River to this spot was kind of tricky. I had to get the crate in the water, and then carry him over and get him sat down and then go find a good spot to stand to take his picture. As soon as I got to where I was going to stand, he said he had to pee! What?! lol
I’ve taken his picture on this bridge every year since his first birthday. It’s not my favorite spot but I had to do it for old time’s sake!
“Are we done now? Can I throw rocks in the water now?” Boys!
