Sometimes a Hat is All You Need!

Today we went to the BBQ Festival.  It was just like being in Austin but greener!  We went because one of our favorite singer/songwriters from Austin was going to be there, Carolyn Wonderland.  Turns out, they had a stage called “Meat Austin Music” where there were lots of Austinite bands.  We were thrilled!  We had so much fun!!  I’m so glad that we went.  It did take a little bit of work to get there on time.  We had to get Mya up earlier than usual this morning, take her to a park to run, run, run to wear her out all so that we could lay her down early for her nap so that we could get her up earlier than usual.  It worked!  We got to the festival just as Carolyn was starting.  After checking out the music for a while we went to find the BBQ.  I was on a mission to find the N.C. stand.  We finally found it.  It was the last one and it was closed!  No!  I wanted my N.C. style of BBQ.  TX BBQ is good, so good, but just different.  We finally found a stand that had something that looked similar to what I was used to and it was divine!!  After we ate, my hat became the center of entertainment for about 1/2 an hour.  😉  Love it when Mya can be that easily entertained!  We can’t wait to go back to the festival again next year.  Could this city get any better, really?

Umm, WHAT?!

So if you follow my blog, you know that Mya HATES having her picture taken and usually starts crying the instant she sees my camera.  No joke.  Well, yesterday I was sorting through all of my props, getting them in order, getting excited about booking some new NY clients, uh hmmm….yes, NY clients (that’s a hint to the New Yorkers to book me lol) and Mya started putting on the hats and tutus and asked me to take her picture.  WHAT?!!  Of course I said, “Absolutely!”  She was so cute and wanted her Papa Bear in the pictures too.  I realized that by placing her beloved Papa Bear on top of the camera, I was able to get her to look and smile at the camera all at the same time!  Girl, you made my day!

My Little Bookworm

Mya has always loved books.  We started reading to her the day that she came home from the hospital.  Having been a teacher, this was so important to me.  It has really payed off!  Her language skills are just so incredible and now she loves books!  This morning, I was helping Ryder move a huge, heavy shelf into our room that he had put so much time into putting together and I looked and saw Mya doing this:

It took all that I had not to drop the shelf and run and get the camera.  😉  When we had the shelf in our room though, that’s what I did.  She just looked so relaxed and content.  That doesn’t happen too often.  She is so high energy.  I took her to a little gym place this morning to try it out and one mom said, “Wow, she sure is active!”  All of the other moms/nannies were watching her and laughing because she was so insanely hyper!!  Oh my gosh, she really wears me out!  But I love her and she keeps me going even when I would give anything to lay down for one second.  lol

By the way, see those pictures on her wall behind her bed?  I got that idea from this lady.  She’s kind of a genius.  Okay, she is, and I love looking at her site.  If you’ve never seen it, check it out.  She has so many great ideas and not to mention, she’s a phenomenal photographer!  I have been into photography for a long time, since I was a teenager, but after seeing some of her work, that is when I said, “I”m going to DO that!”  And I did.  🙂

And yes, I know, more pictures of Mya.  These New Yorkers sure are hard to book!  It will happen….one day!

Memorial Weekend

This weekend we had so much fun checking out new parks and places around our neighborhood.  I had no idea that so many playgrounds in NY have sprinklers.  So cool!  Mya is in love with them too.  It was a hot weekend so thank goodness for all of the cool water!  Hope everyone had a nice, relaxing Memorial Weekend!!  I feel so revived.  Ryder and I even took a nap yesterday while Mya was napping.  We never, ever do that.  I almost felt like we were on vacation!  Ahhhh…now back to the daily grind.  😉

Little Bear

Mya has become totally obsessed with the children’s show called Little Bear.  She has to watch it every morning.  There are 3 segments in each episode and each time a new one starts she has to run up to me or Ryder and yell, “Another one!!”  😉  The other day she was so into it that she wouldn’t even look at me or acknowledge me when I spoke to her.  It was kind of scary.  I had to get a picture of this to remember that TV really can rot your brain!  lol  (For those of you bored of pictures of Mya, so sorry!  Still waiting to book some clients in NY.  🙁  I’ve only been here a week but I’m dying to get back to work.  During Mya’s nap, I usually edit photos for clients, but right now all I do is surf the web.  There’s only so much you can look at on-line before your brain rots too!)
