Welcoming Baby at Home | Moraga In-Home Newborn Sessions

One of the greatest compliments I can receive is when a family invites me back after welcoming another baby. When I photographed their daughter three and a half years ago, I never imagined I’d be back in the same home documenting her as a proud big sister!

It feels like just yesterday she was a tiny baby curled up in her parents’ arms. This time, I had the honor of returning to their home to meet their newest little one and capture this exciting new chapter.

One of the things I love most about in-home newborn photography is how relaxed and meaningful it feels. Everything takes place in the comfort of your own home, where your family can settle in naturally without the stress of packing up and leaving with a brand-new baby. The nursery, favorite chair for cuddles, and all of the little details you’ve carefully prepared become part of your family’s story.

For growing families, an in-home session is also perfect for toddlers. Big sisters and brothers can take breaks, play with their own toys, and come back whenever they’re ready for more photos. It creates a calm environment where genuine smiles and sweet sibling moments happen naturally.

I photograph families throughout Moraga, Lafayette, Orinda, Walnut Creek, Oakland, Berkeley, and the surrounding East Bay communities, so every session feels a little different. Whether we’re documenting a newborn in a cozy nursery or cuddling together in the living room, I love using the beautiful natural light in each home to create timeless images that reflect your family’s unique story.

One of my favorite moments from this session was watching their daughter proudly love on her new baby brother. Seeing families grow from three to four is always incredibly rewarding, especially when I’ve had the privilege of documenting both babies’ first days.

At the bottom of this post, I’ve included a few favorite images from their first newborn session with their daughter three and a half years ago. Looking back at those photographs alongside today’s images is such a beautiful reminder of how quickly these years pass. Babies become toddlers, toddlers become proud big siblings, and before you know it, another tiny newborn has joined the family. Being trusted to preserve these milestones is truly one of the greatest joys of my job.

If you’re expecting a baby and are looking for a newborn photographer in Moraga, Lafayette, Orinda, Walnut Creek, or elsewhere in the East Bay, I’d love to help you preserve these first days in a relaxed, natural way. Whether you choose an in-home lifestyle session or a posed studio newborn session, my goal is to create timeless images that you’ll treasure for years to come.

Returning to Asheville to Photograph a Family I’ve Loved Watching Grow

One of the greatest gifts of being a newborn photographer is watching families grow over the years.

This summer, I’ll be returning to Asheville to visit friends and family. While I’m there, I have the honor of photographing a brand-new baby boy for a family I first met when his big sister was a newborn.

It’s hard to believe that little girl is now three and a half years old because it feels like just yesterday that I was photographing her tiny fingers, sleepy smiles, and the beginning of her family’s journey.

Now they are welcoming a baby brother, and I get to document this exciting new chapter.

The Greatest Compliment

There is no greater compliment than being invited back to photograph a family’s newest baby.

Parents trust me with some of their most treasured memories. When they ask me to return, I know those images have become part of their family story.

Therefore I never take that trust for granted.

Photographing a newborn is special but photographing a second baby for the same family is even more meaningful.

Watching a Big Sister Grow

One of the things I’m most excited about is seeing how much their daughter has grown.

She was once the tiny newborn in front of my camera. Now she is becoming a big sister.

I can’t wait to capture those first sibling moments. The gentle hugs, curiosity, and tiny hands reaching for a new baby brother often become some of a family’s favorite photographs. In fact, sibling photos are some of my favorites to capture!

Looking Forward to Seeing Them Again

Although I now live in California, Asheville will always be my home.

Returning to the area and reconnecting with families I’ve photographed over the years is one of my favorite parts of visiting. Seeing familiar faces and meeting new family members is always a joy.

I am counting down the days until I meet this sweet baby boy, see his family again, and create another collection of memories for them to treasure.

To this wonderful family: thank you for inviting me back. It is truly an honor to be part of your story once again.

Timeless Baby Girl Session/Lamorinda Newborn Photographer

East Bay Newborn Baby Photographer

There’s something especially sweet about photographing a newborn baby girl for the first time. This Lamorinda newborn session was one of those calm, beautiful experiences that felt both effortless and meaningful from start to finish.

This baby girl looked absolutely adorable in pink. Soft, delicate, and understated, the shade photographed beautifully and complemented her features in the most timeless way. Pink has a long history in newborn photography for a reason — when done thoughtfully, it feels classic rather than trendy, and gentle rather than bold. The goal is never to overwhelm the baby, but to enhance what’s already there.

While I do love pink for baby girls, it’s far from the only color I use. I’m equally drawn to blues, soft neutrals, and non-traditional tones for girls. Muted blues, warm creams, subtle greens, and earthy hues can be just as beautiful and timeless. Color doesn’t need to define a baby — it simply sets the tone of the image. My approach to newborn photography in the East Bay is always about balance, simplicity, and creating images that will still feel relevant decades from now.

During this session, we focused on keeping everything clean and classic. The styling was intentional but minimal, allowing the baby to remain the focal point. Her tiny features, soft expressions, and natural movements were what truly mattered. These are the details parents want to remember — not what was trending at the time, but what felt true to their baby.

Families in Lamorinda often tell me they’re drawn to newborn photography that feels timeless rather than styled for a moment. That’s always my goal. Whether we’re using pink, blue, or something unexpected, the end result should feel cohesive, calm, and enduring. These images are meant to live on walls, in albums, and eventually in the hands of this child when she’s grown.

This baby girl’s session was a perfect example of how classic styling and thoughtful color choices can come together beautifully. Pink may have been the starting point, but the heart of the session was preserving her exactly as she was in these first days of life.

If you’re expecting and looking for newborn photography in the Lamorinda or East Bay area, I always encourage parents to think beyond trends and focus on what will stand the test of time. Simple, classic images never lose their meaning.

A Quiet Winter Newborn Session in Moraga/Moraga Newborn Baby Photographer

Some sessions stay with me long after the gallery is delivered, and this sweet baby boy’s newborn session is definitely one of them.

A session that almost didn’t happen

This session almost didn’t happen. I don’t usually book sessions when my kids are on winter break. That time is normally reserved for being fully present with them, slowing down, and soaking in the season. But this mama reached out more than once, sharing how much these photos meant to her and how much she hoped we could make it work. Her sincerity and excitement were impossible to ignore, and I’m so glad I said yes.

An easy connection from the start

From the moment she arrived at my Moraga studio, it felt easy. She was one of those people you can instantly talk to, like you’ve known each other longer than an hour. Conversation flowed naturally, there was laughter mixed in with the quiet moments, and the whole session felt relaxed and unrushed. Those connections always matter to me, because when parents feel comfortable, it shows in the photos.

And then there was her baby boy — just as sweet as they come. He had that calm, gentle presence that fills a room without needing much at all. He settled in beautifully, giving us those peaceful newborn expressions that parents hope for, along with a few tiny stretches that reminded me just how new he was to the world. Sessions like this are a reminder of why I love newborn photography so much: the softness, the stillness, and the fleeting details that pass far too quickly.

What made this session especially meaningful was knowing how wanted these images were. When parents truly value documenting this season, it adds an extra layer of intention to the experience. These photos aren’t just for today — they’re for years from now, when this tiny baby boy is running through the house and winter break looks completely different.

I’m grateful I made an exception, grateful for a mama who trusted me with her newborn, and grateful for the quiet magic that happens when the timing works out exactly as it should. This is why I do what I do — to preserve these early days in a way that feels honest, timeless, and full of heart.

If you’re in the East Bay area, are expecting and hoping to document your newborn’s first days, I always recommend reaching out early, especially during busy seasons. Sometimes the calendar surprises us in the best possible way.

Welcoming This Sweet Baby Girl: A Beautiful Session Filled With Family, Love, and Safety/Moraga Newborn Baby Photographer

One of the things I love most about being a Moraga newborn photographer is getting to meet entire families who come together to celebrate their newest little one. This beautiful baby girl visited my Moraga studio with her parents, big sister, and grandparents for a session that was filled with love, curiosity, and plenty of adorable wide-awake moments.

We started with the family portion of the session. Grandmother joined us for this part before taking big sister home afterward, and you could see how much she adored this new baby. Like many grandparents, she watched closely and stayed nearby during the family photos. That quiet attentiveness always comes from a place of deep love and wanting to make sure the newest member of the family is safe and cared for.

I completely understand that instinct. For many grandparents, newborn photography is something new, and the studio environment, props, and posing can feel unfamiliar at first. What they may not know is that I have been photographing newborns for 16 years and have extensive training in newborn safety, physiology, and posing techniques. Every part of the session is planned with safety and comfort in mind. I move slowly, support babies at all times, and follow their cues rather than forcing poses. I don’t do some of the more popular poses that are uncomfortable for babies.  Every pose that I do and that you see in my work is one that I feel is safe and is one that is natural and easy for babies.

Once the family portion was finished and the grandparents, dad and big sister headed home, we focused on the baby-only images. This sweet girl had her own plans for the session—she stayed wide awake the entire time. Some babies drift right to sleep, and others are alert and studying everything around them. Both make for beautiful images. Her bright eyes, tiny expressions, and the way she took in her surroundings added so much personality to the gallery. Awake sessions can be incredibly special, because they show a baby’s curiosity and unique little spirit right from the start.

The whole session had a calm and peaceful energy. Her parents were so in love with her, and this little girl seemed content just watching everything happening around her.

Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do. Being invited to document these fleeting early days is such an honor. This sweet baby girl is already surrounded by so much love, and it was a joy to capture the beginning of her story.

Welcome to the world, little one. You are so loved.
