One of the greatest joys of being a Bay Area newborn photographer has been getting to meet so many incredible families since moving here. Each session reminds me how lucky I am to do what I love—capturing beautiful, timeless memories for families throughout the East Bay, Lamorinda, and beyond. I truly believe I have the best job in the world!

Every newborn and family session is special. As a baby photographer in the Bay Area, I get to document the sweetest moments—tiny newborn details, the bond between siblings, and the love parents have for their little ones. These photographs aren’t just images; they become part of a family’s story, something to be cherished and passed down through generations.

The Bay Area has been such a welcoming place, and I feel so fortunate that families trust me with these once-in-a-lifetime moments.

This year has been amazing, and my schedule has filled up faster than I ever expected. I currently only have a couple of openings left for this year, and I’m already booking sessions for next year! If you’ve been considering scheduling a session with an East Bay photographer who specializes in newborn photography, now is the perfect time to reach out.

Whether you’re expecting a new baby, or planning a milestone session, I would love to help capture this chapter of your story.

Light & Dark/East Bay Newborn Baby Photographer

As an East Bay newborn baby photographer, one of my favorite parts of this work is playing with light and textures to create photographs that feel timeless. Families in Lamorinda, Moraga, and throughout Contra Costa County often ask me if I prefer a dark and moody style or a light and airy look—and honestly, I love both. Each style tells a different story, and for me, photography is about capturing emotion and atmosphere.

Dark and moody images are full of richness. I love the way deep shadows and dramatic lighting bring out texture in fabrics, wood, and tiny baby details. These images feel soulful, emotional, and powerful—like a piece of fine art that could hang on your wall for decades. They work beautifully for studio newborn sessions in my Moraga studio as well as cozy in-home lifestyle sessions around the East Bay.

At the same time, there’s something undeniably beautiful about light and airy photography. The soft glow, bright whites, and pastel tones create a feeling of calm, peace, and tenderness. It’s a style that feels lighthearted and joyful. I especially love this look when photographing babies in naturally lit homes around Lafayette, Orinda, or Walnut Creek.

I believe every session deserves a balance. By offering both dark and moody and light and airy images, my clients receive a gallery full of variety, all tied together by one thing: texture and lighting that create drama and emotion. Whether it’s lace wraps, rustic wood, or soft knits, I love layering in those little details that make each image feel timeless.

No matter which style speaks to you more, the beauty is in having choices. Some families love the richness of dark, moody tones, while others are drawn to the soft and dreamy feel of light and airy. With me, you don’t have to choose—I bring both to your session so you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Why the first 12 Days? East Bay Newborn Baby Photographer

Why the First 12 Days Matter for Newborn Photography

As an East Bay newborn photographer, one of the most common questions I hear is: “Why do photographers recommend scheduling newborn photos within the first 12 days?” The answer is simple but so important—those first days are truly magical, both for your baby and for capturing timeless portraits your family will treasure forever.

Babies Are Sleepiest in the First Two Weeks

During the first 12 days of life, newborns are naturally very sleepy. This makes it easier to gently pose them in those curly, womb-like positions that parents love. Once babies pass the two-week mark, they often become more alert and less flexible, which can make those cozy, classic poses more difficult to capture.

Capturing Their Fresh, Tiny Details

From their flaky skin to their tiny fingers and toes, newborns change so quickly. By day 12, you’ll start to notice your baby filling out, losing that “just born” look. A newborn photography session in Moraga during this short window ensures you’ll have images that preserve all those fleeting details forever.

Parents Are Still in the Newborn Bubble

As a mom myself, I know how quickly those first days fly by. You’re in a haze of feedings, cuddles, and learning your new routine. Taking time for a newborn photo session gives you a chance to slow down, breathe, and soak in the love surrounding your new little one. Many families tell me the session itself became one of their favorite early memories together.

Flexibility With Scheduling

Because newborns arrive on their own timeline, I always recommend booking your session before your baby is born. That way, your spot is reserved and we can adjust the date depending on when your baby makes their arrival. My Lamorinda studio and in-home lifestyle sessions are designed to be calm, cozy, and completely baby-led so parents can relax and enjoy the experience.

A Lasting Investment in Memories

Your newborn stage is so brief—it feels endless in the moment, but it’s gone in a flash. Choosing to schedule photos within the first 12 days ensures you’ll have beautiful, professional images that reflect the love, tenderness, and beauty of this season of life. These portraits become heirlooms that grow in value with every passing year.

Decades/East Bay Newborn Baby Photographer

When I look at my work, I want it to feel like it could have been taken yesterday… or 50 years ago… or 50 years from now. That’s why I’m drawn to old props, delicate lace, worn wood, and rich textures. These elements have a soul to them – they add depth, warmth, and a sense of history to your baby’s photos.

I’ve always believed that newborn photography should be timeless. I don’t want your baby’s portraits to scream, “This was taken in 2025!” in the same way we can instantly spot photos from the 80s and 90s. You know the ones – overly bright backdrops, neon colors, and those strange duplicated “fade” images floating behind the subject. Or babies with giant flower headbands so big they look like they’re about to tip over. They’re fun to look back on… but maybe not exactly the kind of style you’d hang in your living room forever.

That’s why my sessions are built on simplicity and authenticity. I use neutral, earthy tones that will still look beautiful decades from now. My lace wraps, vintage crates, and weathered wooden backdrops tell a story without overshadowing the most important thing – your baby. Textures invite you to feel the image, to imagine the softness of the blanket or the roughness of the wood, all while keeping the focus exactly where it should be.

I want your newborn photos to be as treasured in 30 years as they are the day you first see them. When your child is grown, you won’t remember what colors were trending – but you’ll remember how tiny they were in your arms, how peaceful they looked sleeping, and how full your heart felt in that moment. That’s what timeless photography is all about.

If you’re ready for newborn photos that will never go out of style, I’d love to welcome you into my East Bay studio. Together, we’ll create classic, heartfelt portraits that you’ll be proud to display for generations. Contact me here:  brandynicole77@gmail.com

I’m Back/East Bay Newborn Baby Photographer

As a newborn photographer, my calendar can fill up quickly. But every summer, I make the intentional choice to take on fewer sessions. It’s not because I don’t love photographing your sweet babies – I do! – but because I believe deeply in taking time to just breathe, relax, and be present with my family.

Life moves fast. Between school schedules, work commitments, and the constant buzz of our phones, it’s easy to forget to pause. Summer offers the perfect opportunity to step back, savor long evenings, and create memories with the people we love most. For me, that means saying no to a packed shooting schedule so I can say yes to backyard dinners, spontaneous adventures, and simple, quiet mornings.

Photographing families has taught me something important: children grow and change in the blink of an eye. The seasons of life are fleeting, and the moments that matter most often happen in between the big events. That’s why I believe in protecting time for my own family – the same way I encourage my clients to do.

I always encourage my clients to be present in their images – to cuddle, laugh, and connect without worrying about perfection. By living this philosophy myself during the summer months, I return to the studio feeling refreshed, inspired, and ready to capture those authentic connections for your family.

If you’re expecting and want to secure your spot on my calendar, reach out as soon as possible. Whether in my East Bay newborn studio or in your home, we’ll create timeless photographs that tell your family’s unique story.  Contact me here:  brandynicole77@gmail.com
