Senior Sessions Guide
Everything you need to know to feel prepared, confident, and completely yourself at your session.

What to Wear
This is always the biggest question — and it doesn’t have to be complicated.
The goal is to choose outfits that feel like you, just a slightly elevated version.
I recommend bringing 2 outfits so we can create variety while keeping the session relaxed and easy.
A good combination:
- One casual outfit – something you feel comfortable and natural in: jeans, stylish top
- One dressier outfit – something a little more styled or elevated
A few tips:
- Solid, bold colors look amazing at sunset and really stand out against natural backgrounds
- Neutrals and earthy tones also photograph beautifully
- Avoid super busy patterns or distracting logos (unless it’s intentional like a school shirt)
- Flowy pieces (dresses, skirts) add movement and photograph really well
- Try everything on beforehand so you feel confident
Most importantly — if you feel good in it, it will show in your photos.

Location
We’ll choose one location for your session to keep things simple and focused, while still giving you a lot of variety.
Depending on your style, we can go for:
- Hills & Fields: Golden grass, oak trees, and that glowy sunset light. This is the classic California look and one of the most popular.
- Green / Nature: Trees, shaded paths, redwoods and a softer, more natural feel.
- Urban: Brick walls, sidewalks, and textured backgrounds for a more modern, editorial vibe.
- St. Mary’s is a great spot for a little bit of everything!
Even within one location, we’ll move around to capture different looks and backgrounds so your gallery feels diverse.
What to Bring
Bringing a few meaningful items can make your session feel more personal and unique.
Some ideas:
- Sports gear (basketball, volleyball, football, jersey)
- Instruments or hobby-related items: book, painting supplies,…
- School shirt or sweatshirt (Does not count as 2nd outfit)
- College shirt, hat, or banner (Does not count as 2nd outfit)
- Letterman jacket
- Cap & gown (if you have it)
These don’t need to be in every photo — just a few moments that reflect who you are right now.

Outfit Changes
Yes — you can absolutely change outfits during your session.
Most seniors:
- Change in their car (super common and easy)
- Or I can bring a small changing tent if you’d prefer more privacy
We’ll keep things simple so everything flows smoothly.
A Quick Note on Shoes
Some locations require a bit of walking between spots, especially in hills or nature areas.
I recommend bringing comfortable shoes (like tennis shoes or sandals) to walk in, even if your outfit includes dressier shoes. You can easily change once we get to each spot. Heels are not recommended on the hills!
The Overall Experience
Senior sessions are meant to feel relaxed and fun — not stiff or awkward. *Bring your favorite music on your phone to play during your session! This is a really great way to relax and be in the moment!
You don’t need to know how to pose. I’ll guide you the entire time so you feel comfortable and natural.
This is such a special season of life, and my goal is to capture it in a way that feels true to you.
If you have questions or want help planning your session, I’m always happy to help. I’ll guide you through everything so you feel completely prepared going in.
